Where’s our Summer!??! Been one cold wet start to our Skagit Springer season! River is the lowest I’ve ever seen it for this time of year… especially for the amt. of snow pack left up in the Cascades. These low clear water conditions make for some great Steelhead fishing but make Springer fishing pretty tough. We’ve been covering tons of water from the mouth of the Cascade all the way down to Rockport with an average of only 2 - 4 hook-ups a day. The fish we have been landing have truly been some quality fish and I very much look forward to more of them.

Here’s Jason with his first Springer… a dandy at that too!!
They don’t come any prettier than this!

Our Summer 2008 Season is now in full swing here, starting with yesterdays Sturgeon fishing trip and today’s opener of our Spring Chinook season here on the Skagit River. Great to be back on the river again!!! Was literally getting “Cabin Fever” around here trying to complete our log home / B&B (http://blog2.johns-guide-service.com/)
There’s just something about being out there on the water doing what I love that does a Johnny good!
Yesterday we started off our Summer season with Jeremy, Mark and son Matt in search of some Sturgeon / “Gators” . Was one of “light biter days” where ya’ know its a “Gator” nippin’ at your bait but they just would’nt commit! We did manage boating one dandy here;

Good friend “Fig-Bella” Mark and his son Matt with one of the days dandy Sturgeon (”Gators”)
Matt, now a.k.a “Nancy” because Dad and Jeremy could’nt even get him to moon the other boat for $10.00… C’Mon’ now Matt get with it!!
:-)
Opening day of Spring Chinook / King Salmon / Springers here on the Skagit with regulars Gary and Lorna turned out pretty typical for a Skagit system opener for Spring Chinook. Lots of biters at first light on the opener and then ya’ really had to get down and work for them the rest of the day. OK,… lesson learned today (Won’t happen to the rest we have booked this month and next… tied all new leaders tonight) started out today using some pre-tied leaders from last season, that must have seen some sun-light or something else bad since last season because they became a bit brittle and broke, losing 3 of todays Springers… OUCH!! Sorry, once again Gary and Lorna. ;-( Did manage to land a couple of smaller fish today and one nice Spring Chinook for Gary and Lorna to throw on the grill tonight.

Thank you again Mark, Matt and Jeremy and Gary and Lorna for the “river fix” and great time!!… Great to be back out on the water again!!!
