June 2006

Been a pretty eventful and hectic week up here on the Skagit.

Some typical Washington Springer fishing here on the Skagit the past week with one day of pretty good fishing and the next pretty slow… and that has a lot to do our water condtions as well… Up and colored up good one day and dropping with some great vis the next. Seems Mother Nature has been throwing everything our way from Sunny and warm, to rain, hail and thunder-storms (and all this seems to be an almost daily event the past few days) :-)

Been quite a few bear sightings up here the past week as well… including this fellow that decided to pop out on the rocks next to us in the middle of the day:

Bear again

There has been numerous sightings of bear around the Cascade River the past few days as well as Howard Miller Steelhead Park over the weekend… so keep your eyes peeled and make sure to make plenty of noise when walking about through the brush along the river banks. ;-)

Been a mix of both Hatchery and Wild Springers the past few days up here on the Skagit. (Wild Chinook of course being released as quickly as possible) Been quite a few large Dollie Varden around as well. Here’s a couple more Springer pics for ya:

Flows finally seem to be on the drop now from all the rain we’ve been getting since the evening of the 1st and the fishing has been improving as well.

Gary and Eric joined us today for another day of Springer action here on the Skagit!! …
Went 3 for 6 today on Springers with a few really rock solid takes!! :-) Great time today guys! Thanks! :-)

Well our Springer opener on the 1st started out pretty well… No rock solid takes by any means and lots of high water to deal with, but there seemed to be plenty of fish around for the opener. :-)

Since the opener on the 1st we’ve been getting quite a bit of rain up here both raising the water level even more and adding quite a bit of color, making for some tough fishing conditions. River conditions should improve drastically during the week as the weather improves.

Will start updating the Blog again now on a daily basis with more reports as we get into our summer season here!
